About Us

For more than 20 years, Feed Your Neighbor Community Food Pantry has helped provide food to neighbors in need throughout our community.

Our Story

The story of Feed Your Neighbor Community Food Pantry began more than 20 years ago at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Greenville, North Carolina. As more people began knocking on the church office door asking for food, staff and parish volunteers started collecting non-perishable items to help meet the growing need.

What began as a small collection of food items soon grew into a pantry. One of the church office closets was transformed into a place where neighbors could receive groceries, and as word spread, the pantry quickly outgrew that space. It later moved into part of the Canterbury House, located next to St. Paul’s Church, allowing the pantry to serve even more members of the community.

Over the years, the pantry has helped thousands of neighbors experiencing food insecurity. In recent years, the need has continued to grow, with a 50% increase in the number of people served since 2023.

In response, the organization took an important step forward in 2024 by becoming a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, creating new opportunities to expand services, increase food access, and explore future growth such as a larger facility, additional equipment, and expanded distribution options.

Today, Feed Your Neighbor Community Food Pantry continues to serve our community with a simple mission: neighbors helping neighbors.

Feeding Our Neighbors

Today, our pantry serves more than 450 neighbors each month, distributing over 175,000 pounds of food annually.

Our pantry is open Thursdays from 1–3 p.m., providing food 51 weeks each year.

Our volunteers make this work possible. It takes more than 2,000 volunteer hours annually to operate the pantry and serve our community.

A Growing Need

The growth of our pantry reflects the increasing needs of our community. According to Feeding America data, 14% of Pitt County residents and more than 23% of children experience food insecurity.

Food insecurity can happen to anyone. The loss of a job, an illness, rising costs, or an unexpected expense can quickly make it difficult for families to afford groceries.

When food becomes unaffordable, the pantry becomes a lifeline. As the need continues to grow both nationally and here in Pitt County, Feed Your Neighbor remains committed to helping individuals and families facing empty cupboards and uncertain times.

Get Involved!

As the need for food assistance grows in our community, we need your help. Volunteer your time or make a financial or in-kind donation to help us serve more families.

Together, we can make sure every neighbor has food on the table.
